FINAL REPORT: Low-Cost Highly Recyclable Structural Composites Utilizing Vitrimers and Natural Fibers (Basalt) Manufactured via a Novel Pultrusion Method for High-Volume Applications

April 30, 2026

LightMAT Seedling Project - Researchers at the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory demonstrated feasibility of manufacturing fiber-reinforced composite parts comprised of vitrimer resin, amin hardener, and unidirectional fiberglass and flax mats using pultrusion processing with a heated steel die. Samples were characterized to determine mechanical and thermal performance. View technical report.
